Karate gear

Good karate gear is needed by any person who practices martial arts. In order for a person to find karate gear that will keep him safe, he should:

• Attend a school – Go to a karate school and look to see what kinds of karate gear are being worn there. The uniforms worn there are usually made of cotton. The uniform is probably the main piece of karate gear that any martial artist needs to have. A good uniform allows the karate student to have free movement and be able to stay quick on his feet.

• Body protection – A person practicing karate must be able to protect his body with the karate gear he uses. Many people use items such as hand and foot pads. These pieces of karate gear are especially worthwhile in sparring situations. These pads are lightweight and are often made from foam rubber. Some footpads are designed with extensions so they can cover the shin as well as the foot.

• Head protection – There are two pieces of karate gear that can be worn to protect the area around a person’s head. The first piece of equipment is a helmet. In competitions where head strikes are allowed, helmets are not usually an option. The rules mandate that they must be worn. Mouth guards are the other item that people use in an effort to protect the area around their heads. Mouth guards are pieces of karate gear that can help a person avoid biting his tongue after being struck with a blow to the head.
